Switching from an old phone to a new phone is exciting, but the worry of losing WhatsApp chats can be stressful.
Don’t worry! Moving WhatsApp data from your Android to your new iPhone OR from your iPhone to your new Android is fairly straightforward. This guide provides the simplest and quickest way to transfer your WhatsApp conversations and media for the following scenarios:
Ensure your Android and iPhone are fully charged or plugged into a power source during the transfer process to avoid any interruptions. Check that you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on both your Android and iPhonpatibility issues.
You will also need to ensure that both devices will be logged into the same number on WhatsApp.
Then, back up your WhatsApp data on your old device by going to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Back Up.
Make sure your new phone has enough storage to accommodate the incoming data from your old phone, and ensure both devices are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid any interruptions during the transfer.
And finally, remember to be patient. The transfer process can take some time, especially if you have a lot of WhatsApp data. Patience is key – don’t interrupt the transfer by using either device.
To begin, download the 'Move to iOS' app from the Google Play Store on your Android phone. This Apple-developed app is designed to transfer your data securely from Android to iOS.
If your iPhone is brand new, simply follow the setup prompts until you reach the 'Apps & Data' screen. Choose 'Move Data from Android'. If your iPhone has already been set up, you will need to erase its contents to use the 'Move to iOS' app by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
After selecting 'Move Data from Android' on your iPhone, a ten- or six-digit code will appear. Enter this code on your Android device when prompted by the 'Move to iOS' app.
On your Android device, select 'WhatsApp' on the 'Transfer Data' screen. This will prepare your WhatsApp data for the transfer. Once the preparation is complete, you'll be signed out of WhatsApp on your Android phone.
Tap 'Continue' to start the transfer process. Your WhatsApp chat history, media, and other data will start moving to your iPhone. The time taken will depend on the amount of data being transferred.
Once the transfer is complete, download WhatsApp from the App Store on your iPhone. Make sure to use the same phone number that was used on your Android device.
Open WhatsApp and log in using your phone number. You'll be prompted to restore your chat history. Tap 'Start' to initiate this process, and your WhatsApp data will be imported to your new iPhone. Once setup is completed, check your WhatsApp if everything is there!
Meanwhile, you can also make a transfer from your iPhone to your Android devices — with Samsung being one of the easier devices to do so. WhatsApp announced the ability to move chats between platforms alongside a partnership with Samsung. And it might be easier with Samsung devices, as you only need Android 10.
Turn on your Samsung and connect to your iPhone via a USB-C to Lightning cable when prompted by Samsung Smart Switch App.
When prompted, scan the QR code displayed on your Samsung using your iPhone’s camera. Tap the ‘Start’ button to start transferring data.
Once the transfer and device set up is complete, download WhatsApp on your Samsung. Make sure to login with the same phone number that was used on your iPhone.
Open WhatsApp and log in using your phone number. You'll be prompted to restore your chat history. Tap ‘Import’ to initiate this process, and your WhatsApp data will be imported to your new iPhone. Once setup is completed, check your WhatsApp if everything is there!
Make sure your device is factory reset or a freshly reset phone, running on Android 12 or above. Go through the new Android device setup and choose to import all or selected data from iPhone to Android.
Turn on your Android and connect to your iPhone via a USB-C to Lightning cable when ‘Copy apps and data’ screen shows up.
On your iPhone, tap ‘Trust’ to start transferring data. During the transfer process, scan the QR code shown on your Android device using your iPhone. Tap ‘Move Chats to Android’ and Tap ‘Start’ on your iPhone WhatsApp screen.
Open WhatsApp and log in using your phone number on your Android and check if everything is there and all set!
